Z2K Appoints New Chief Executive Officer

Anti-poverty charity Z2K has appointed Chris Phillips as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Z2K was founded in opposition to the Poll Tax and focuses on the two big causes of poverty – high living costs and low incomes.

The charity supports people so they can gain access to welfare benefits and works to prevent homelessness by challenging the system, alongside pro bono legal partners, and people with lived experience of poverty.

Chris has a longstanding commitment to social justice and has spent 15 years working in the charity sector. Through roles at Barnardo’s, The Children’s Society, Arthritis UK and Anthony Nolan she has built up a strong track record of organisational leadership, engagement, advocacy and partnership.

As Chief Executive, she will lead Z2K’s work to end poverty and injustice by ensuring people facing hardship can secure the support they need, advancing policy change, and further developing the charity’s strong culture of participation.

Chair of Trustees, Emeka Forbes said:

“Z2K has always combined practical support with a determination to challenge the systems that create poverty. As we look to the future, we believe there is an opportunity to deepen that impact and reach even more people.
“Chris's strategic leadership, commitment to equity and ability to build strong partnerships make her exceptionally well placed to lead that next chapter. We are excited about what we can achieve together."

Chris Phillips said:

"I am honoured to be joining Z2K at such an important time. Too many people are being pushed into poverty by a system that doesn’t work for them when they need it most.
“I look forward to working with Z2K's wider community to create change that allows everyone to access the support they need and live with dignity.”

The appointment comes as Z2K continues its work to challenge poverty, improve access to social security and campaign for a fairer welfare system.
