On Monday 16th May a team of 26 Z2K staff, volunteers and former clients descended on the 2016 London Legal Walk. The Z2K team was just one of hundreds of teams from all across the legal and advice sector.
The walk stretches 10km around London, starting off at the Royal Courts of Justice, ambling along the embankment, through St James Park and Hyde Park before looping around the serpentine and heading back to the start. It was a lovely sunny day and all in the all the walk took us around three hours, but this included toilet and ice cream breaks!
This years team was amazing in it’s variety. Our walkers included our former Chair His Honour Judge Jan Luba QC, a number of trustees and volunteers past and present striding alongside almost the entirety of Z2K’s staff and even former clients such as Mr Brenya.
This year we were once again walking in the memory of our sadly departed Casework Manager, Nick Goldberg who died just over a year ago. Nick had been a member of Z2K’s team for the previous 18 months and during this time helped hundreds of our most vulnerable clients. He was a determined and persuasive advocate for each and every one, always doing everything he could to help clients improve their lives.
Z2K’s walkers certainly weren’t the fastest but few teams could match us in our determination to raise as much money as possible! As it stands we have received almost £10,300 in donations which, with Gift Aid, gives us £12,500. To give you a sense of what Z2K could do with such an amount it would almost pay for half a years salary of one of our dedicated caseworkers. There is still time to donate however so if you haven’t already you can do so here.
